The memory of the 30th of July The holy Apostle Silas, whom the elders of the Apostles chose to minister to the work of preaching the Word of God, labored in the evangelization of the teachings of Christ, first with the holy supreme Apostle Paul, and then alone, without him.

The fourth voice.

The vine of Christ, the vine of wisdom in virtue, the wine of salvation flowing to us: every pleasant cheer we fill, celebrating your honorable memory, in need pray for the remission of our sins, apostles of the Lord.

2 Blessed Theodoret, in his commentary on the epistles of St. Paul (2 Cor 1:19 and Ephesians 1:1), holds that the Apostle Silvanus mentioned here is one person with the Apostle Silas. This is also indicated by the fact that Silas is not mentioned at all in the epistles, whereas he was one of the most zealous collaborators of the holy Apostles, while Silvanus is mentioned by the Apostles in such cases as are proper to Silas. Western interpreters (Wizeler, Meyer and others) and Silvanus, who is mentioned by the Apostle Peter in the first epistle (5:12) consider him to be Silas.
